Made some apple bread for some friends. It smelled delicious and I was thinkin’ of the apples that I was foldin’ into the bread and where they came from. It would be the last batch of apples from Sweets n L’s farm. Luckily, I have some canned ones in my pantry. But, they just closed on the farm on Sunday and are now in search of their new place to call HOME.
The farm was the kids favorite place on earth. While I know it was a very bittersweet day for them – now they can find a place closer to work and build the home of their dreams. But I thought of the fun, the laughter and the tears that were had there, but also the commitments. L bought the farm and poured his sweat and money into it and then he proposed to Sweets there. It was a beautiful place and now some wonderful young family will be blessed to call it home.
It got me thinkin’ about what it means for a place to become a home. I believe it has to have all the elements of being the place you love to go to and to dwell in. But that includes FAMILY and the love that embraces all of that. Making it a place where you are safe, warm and it’s your very own. I believe that the amount of time and events that take place at your house is also what makes it a home. When my kids were young, I also decorated for the holidays, had them make crafts or foods for those events and I’m glad that some of those things “took”. I love that Sweets likes to decorate and add special details to events in her and L’s life.
Even though I know it was difficult for them to leave such a great place, their very first HOME together- they will find another place where they will put their heart and soul into and I can’t wait to see it and watch them “live” there!
