GUYS——-guys… I have a HUGE regret. That I didn’t try making my own laundry detergent and dryer sheets a long time ago! Lots of good things have come out of this rona-time… like organizing, cleaning, purging, crafting, and so much more. But at the top of my list of things that I am the happiest about…. is having my laundry feel like clothes line fresh laundry! No JOKE!
If you’ve never hung your laundry out on the clothes line then you have no earthly idea of what I speak of. But if you have…then you know what I’m talking about.
Clothes off the line feels crisp, fresher and just plain good. I can’t even explain how bed sheets feel!
Clothes line fresh laundry.
That’s the result you will get when you use your own homemade detergent and softener sheets. The feel and freshness is not the only reason to start making your own. You will $AVE $O MUCH from doing it that you will have extra moola for a special night out, a new pair of shoes, that purse you’ve been wanting. Whatever! The point is—-you’ve got to try this. I’ve been giving it a month now to see if I would be impressed with the results. Just call me impressed! I should seriously have been doing this forever ago!
I have been putting this off after seeing it for a number of years on Pinterest feeds.
“How good can it possibly be?” I asked myself. “What kind of a difference can I possibly see?” She asked. I’m here to tell you that you have to give it a shot. I don’t put anything on GCC unless I am pleased with the results, I love it, and/or if I believe in it 100%! I’m passionate about this DIY!!!
The best part also, is that you can use them safely in your “HE” washer & dryer!!!
There are lots of different methods and ingredients out there so try the ones you like the most. This is what I am personally happy with!
FABRIC SOFTENER:
Let’s start with this one–because you will need to use some for your dryer sheets. Here is what you will need…
- 12 oz. bottle of hair conditioner (whatever scent you like) *I used Suave
- 1 1/2 c distilled white vinegar
- 3 c really warm water
Combine all of the above and stir to mix until well blended. Pour into a jar and label.
DRYER SHEETS:
- fabric, old t-shirt, or some cleaning wipes (like I used) cut into 7×7 inch squares. (Cut as many as you want. These ingredients are for about 24-25 squares.)
- 3 T homemade fabric softener
- 1 cup water
Fold your squares and pack them into a mason jar or other tight lidded container (standing up). Separate in the center, making an opening so you can add the fabric softener and water. Once you do that, just cover and shake a few times.
To use…
toss a square in your dryer. Once you use a dryer sheet, set it aside until you’ve used ’em all. Then simply place them back in your jar and *repeat (add fabric softener and water). You will be able to use them over and over again!
I love them and best part… NO chemicals!!!
LAUNDRY DETERGENT:
- FELS-NAPTHA soap bar *found in the laundry section at grocery store. (Grated. I use my cheese grater. = 1.5 cups grated)
- 3 c Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
- 3 c Borax Detergent Booster
Mix and combine all three ingredients and store in a glass container. I use 1/4 cup scoop for each load. *AGAIN—“he” safe!!!
If you’re not making your own detergent and dryer sheets–give this a try. I will certainly NEVER buy laundry detergent or dryer sheets again! Ever!
Before I go and while we’re on the topic of laundry… I am in the process of giving our laundry/butler’s pantry a makeover. Can’t wait to share the outcome with y’all!
