Are you a pet owner? If so, are you curious as to where the dog treats you’re buying, come from? Or, what’s in ’em??? Because I have this healthy & homemade recipe for some awesome doggie treats, they will LOVE and they’re nothing like the store bought kind!
Until recently, I bought bulk treats from the local grocer, but I want my girl to be healthy & happy. I mean look @ this face? Does she not deserve it??
Dosee Doh doesn’t care for dog biscuits, but I realized she wasn’t totally thrilled about the ones I’d been buying her either. I didn’t even know what was in them—the bins don’t have nutritional info on them or ANYTHING at all for that matter!
Some years back, my daughter and I had made homemade dog biscuits and our dogs totally loved ’em. I got on the internet and started researching what dogs love and what they can have. After searching through a number of recipes, I took my faves (based on reviews), and combined ingredients to make “the Elvis”! Peanut butter, bananas & bacon became the basis of this treat!
They are better for your dogs, nutritious and inexpensive to make.
*As much as I hate bacon, I was willing to make a dogacious effort for my pooch. The end result…
healthy & homemade
the Elvis DoggieTreat
- 2 bananas (smashed)
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 T. peanut butter (I used Trader Joe’s Crunchy Cookie Butter) *all nat & no pres
- 1/4 c. oats
- 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
- 3 strips of fried bacon (crumbled)
In a medium bowl, beat your egg and add the bananas & peanut butter. Blend well. In a larger bowl combine your flour and oats then make a small well in center of bowl and pour the egg mixture. Incorporate the bacon pieces until the dough is well mixed.
Flour your surface generously and grab handfuls of dough. I patted down to 1/4″ thick, (no need to roll out), cut and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Makes about 40 treats
Now you have a healthy alternative to those store bought, dyed, non-nutritional version! The bonus is your dog will really like them. I tested them on several of our friends dogs and they couldn’t get enough.

On another note…
to our new grand-pooch—HADLEY! She was rescued this week by my kids (S&L). She needed a good home & she’s found it. Prepare to be spoiled rotten!

She is a full blooded vizsla (their favorite dog breed), and is already an instant friend to her brother Huckleberry!

Welcome home Ms. Hadley~

Amazing!!
You dog and grand dogs are too cute! I might have to try making homemade dog treats for my two puppies. I have two 8-month-old Pit Bulls name Tyson and Crook who love treats.
I love the name Crook- so unique! How did y’all come up with that? And do try the treats-they will love ’em! Belle
