Jean Therapy

jean therapy

How many of you own that one pair of jeans that feel like they’ve been molded to your shape because you’ve had them forever and there’s no other pair like them?  Welcome to my jean therapy post!

I started hyperventilating a few days ago, (and I’m not even exaggerating)!  Because I thought my husband had tossed out my favorite, ancient pair.   I’ve had them for probably 12 years and they look it but they are the most wonderful pair I have ever owned! This is them…

Pitiful I know!

You’re probably thinking, “girl, just toss ’em!”  But you have to understand that I use to not be a fan of jeans in my younger years.  I’ve always been very VERY—hot natured, and the idea of wearing jeans between March through October in Texas, was just plain dumb witted in my opinion.  I was a shorts and flip flops kinda girl during those months.

Things have changed over the years and so has denim!  While you have, the denim mixed in with poly and rayon making the overall jean more conforming it also makes them not last as long as 100% denim fabric.

Then you have the “already ripped” jeans (like my boyfriend jeans I’m wearing here), but those are just fun!   While we live in a throwaway society, I’m just not gonna toss something out cause of a few rips or tears.  Just haul out my sewing machine and raid my cutoff jean stash for patching, right?

There’s “salvageable” and then there’s “it’s time to toss out”!  My pair are probably at that point?!?  I need jean therapy!!!

Hence this post!

I started to research some patching jobs out there to see if I was alone on this topic and while some were just fun and downright entertaining, I knew in the end of my search that my pair, might possibly still have one last chance for salvaging.

Checkout the fun…

I just loved some of the creative options that were out there AND the embroidery work on some!!! Wow!

I’m thinking about going on the more creative approach this one and final time on my poor pair.  I’m not ashamed of my “hobo-looking” pair and the hubby is gonna have to back off a little while longer! 😉

Thank you for your post. I have a pair which is ready for some creative updates too. I am just looking for the perfect fabric to peak through. I’m considering a doily. 😄

A doily would look amazing Jennifer! I just patched a bunch of little boy jeans with superheroes peeking through for the grandsons! They were a huge hit! Thanks for stopping by and send me a pic of yours when you get ’em done! ❤︎

I’m 74 and I luvvv my distressed jeans. Some are right up there with your favorite pair. There’s no describing how comfortable they are.
I may buy bargain basement jeans to practice with the different patches.

Judy agreed! Nothing like a good, worn pair of jeans!!! If you do try some patches- I’d love to see what yours turn out like! 💗

I’m into the Japanese wabi sabi philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection. As well as the practice of zero waste and restyling/reusing. A good fit with your jeans. I have two pieces that I may never stop adding to. A pair of jeans and my favorite old denim shirt.

You should definitely patch them. I’ve done it and I love my jeans even more now!

I want to so bad esp since i’ve been collecting boro patches for years and want to do something widdem
    BUT
My hands’ too post stroke-y to handsow and the directions just say you gotta CUT jeans open on outside seam, then sew em back up if you wanna go
SM (threading bobbin etc’s a clue why sewing machine’s initials are SM.)
Is there a way around this?
Should I just do it, say with a pair of $4 thrift. Jeans? Thank you so much for posting these amazing & inspiring examples
Do you want ever sell a pair or customize?
    Anyway
    Love

Love the face patches. How did you do that embroidery burst? Did you open a seam to lie
    flat?
